Essential household items you can buy on Amazon

  • March 28, 2020

If you’re finding it hard to get certain items from the supermarket at the moment, or if you can’t even get a delivery slot, have you thought about ordering from Amazon?

Amazon isn’t just for books, toys, and dressing up outfits for school, you can also buy lots of essential household items.

Whilst I don’t want to encourage people to shop online unnecessarily and clog up the postal system during lockdown, there are lots of essential items that you can buy from Amazon and have delivered to your door. If there are a few things you need, this can be a great way to get hold of some of those hard to get items.

Here’s a list of essential household items you can buy on Amazon…

Toilet paper and kitchen roll

Of course I had to start with this one! For some reason, as soon as Covid-19 began to spread people started panic buying toilet roll. I honestly have no idea why, but supermarket shelves were completely bare. Luckily, you can buy plenty of toilet roll and also kitchen roll on Amazon still. Buying in bulk at the moment would be sensible as with everyone at home you are bound to get through it quicker than normal – and who knows when the supermarkets will have stock again.

Nappies and wipes

There have also been some idiots bulk buying nappies. Now I do understand that babies use a lot of nappies and there is need to stock up more than usual at the moment, but filling your trolley with as many packs as you can find is just plain greedy. If you haven’t been able to get hold of the correct size, or you’re running low, you can order the main brand name nappies and wipes from Amazon.

Pet food

I haven’t heard that people have struggled to find pet food in the supermarket but from experience I know that cats and dogs east more than you think! I don’t want to have to make a trip to the shops just to get cat food so we ordered a huge box from Amazon. It also works out quite a bit cheaper to buy it in bulk like this.

Washing detergent

Heavy to carry home from the shops and also pretty expensive! Buying washing detergent in bulk means that it gets delivered to your door and also saves you some money in the long run. A must for any family as we all know how much washing gets done in most homes.

Toiletries

There’s nothing worse than being in the shower and realising you’re out of shower gel, or going to take your make-up off before bed and remembering you’re out of face wipes. Buying in bulk from Amazon is such a good idea for things like this and works out cheaper per item. Even Amazon are running low on hand soap but there are some types still in stock if you haven’t been able to find any in the supermarket.

Cleaning products

When there’s a particular type of cleaning product you love (and we all have one!) it’s definitely worth buying a few at a time. Amazon sell cleaning products in packs of 6 or 8, and are also selling this great Ultimate Home Cleaning Kit at the moment that includes 8 cleaning products for just £18.66.

Party supplies

Not exactly a household essential but I know many parents are worried about how to have a birthday party at home for their kids during lockdown. It’s bad enough that they can’t see their friends and family on their birthday so you’ll want to at least be able to decorate the house on their big day. You can get it all from Amazon from banners and paper plates, to balloons and piñatas. A great idea if you also can’t go to the supermarket without taking the kids with you.

Amazon Fresh also delivers groceries to your door so if there is something you’re really struggling to get hold of it might be worth taking up the offer of a free trial to see what they have in stock.

Happy shopping – I hope you manage to get hold of what you need and save a bit of money at the same time.

Sarah
