I didn’t do a book recommendation in November or December as we were just so busy with other things, but I will try to get back on it this year. January’s book recommendation is a lovely personalised book from Family Stories that we received just before Christmas, I’ve lost count of times it’s already been read!
There’s a lot of personalised books for children out there but I especially liked the look of this one because it’s about world travel and promotes diversity. We love to travel and I’d like Little H to learn as much about other countries and cultures as possible.
First of all, we had to log on to family-stories.com to create our book. You start by creating a character that looks like your child and then creating characters for you and your partner. You pick from different hairstyles and colours, skin colours, body types and eyes. With your choice of characters, you can pick 1 or 2 parents or even same-sex parents, so you really can have a book that fits in with your family.
Lastly, you can check over your characters, add a personalised message and have a little preview of the book before sending it to print. Then you sit back and wait for your personalised book to be printed and delivered.
Little H’s face lit up when her book arrived and she saw her name on the cover. When she opened the book she said: “You and Daddy are in it too, and it looks a bit like you!”.
(Obviously, I’ve Photoshopped her name out of the photo for the blog)
The book starts with your child waking up on their birthday and going on a magical treasure hunt around the world, meeting new friends as they go.
In each country, you’ll learn how to say hello in that language and learn a bit about the people who live there. Little H had learnt about continents and certain countries at school last year so this was a good book to continue that lesson.
The illustrations are lovely and children will love to see their little characters on each page alongside their parents.
If you want to order your copy of the book head over to Family Stories to create your own. Make sure you use discount code DIGIM2 to get 20% off your copy – the code is valid until 30th June 18. These books are great fun to read together and would make a lovely birthday present.
We received our copy of the book for free in return for a review, however, all thoughts and opinions in this post are honest and our own.

What a lovely idea to be able to personalise your own book characters yourself! I think my daughter would go wild for something like this. It’s looks so simple but very effective. #Globalblogging
