This month we were asked to check out a brand new book from Twinkl. We’ve used resources from Twinkl before (read our post here) so were happy to check out their new book, especially as we all love reading as you may have noticed from previous posts!
Twinkl have lots of amazing resources available for all ages, and Ronald the Rhino is one of their ebooks that has been turned into a printed book and sent to 22,000 primary schools in the UK. You can also download the ebook version if you have a Twinkl membership, along with lots of other great books.
Disclaimer – Twinkl have given me a free copy of the book in return for my review – but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Even though Ronald is big, strong rhino, he’s a bit upset because he wants to be interesting like his forest friends Leopard and Snake. After trying a few different things to be more like his friends, they help him to see how great he already is.
Ronald the Rhino is a lovely story about friendship and self-confidence – topics that all parents will want to talk about with their children. Little H struggles with self-confidence, as I know many kids her age do, and this story was useful as a conversation starter about being special even if you’re different to your friends.
Little H read the book to me and she enjoyed that the sentences rhymed. The age range is EYFS and Key Stage 1, with the older kids obviously able to read the books by themselves.
The illustrations are great and we also discovered the Twinkl Augmented Reality app that allows you to use your phone screen to see the characters on the pages come alive in 3D. You can download the app for free and we were pretty amazed by it! This was a fab extra touch to get children even more interested in the story and its characters, and not something I’ve ever seen before.
After reading the story you can access lots of resources on the Twinkl website based on the book, including activity sheets for maths, English, colouring sheets and lots more. Each of the resources tell you which year group they are aimed at to ensure you get the appropriate sheets for your child’s age.
We really enjoyed this book, and it’s great to have extra resources to use at home based on characters kids are already interested in.
If you don’t have a Twinkl membership you can find more information here.
