You may have seen last month that I’m recommending a book we’ve been reading each month. If you missed it, here is September’s book recommendation.
This month our favourite book has been The Princess and The Giant – another great book with a lot of girl power!
October’s Book Recommendation
The Princess and The Giant is about a girl called Sophie who has a beanstalk in her garden. The giant who lives at the top of the beanstalk is very grumpy and loud, and is annoying everyone.
Rather than waiting for a prince or soldiers to save the day, Sophie takes matters into her own hands and tries lots of different plans to make the giant happy.
Princess Sophie is brave, resourceful and keeps trying until she succeeds. All traits we want our daughters to have! There are also a few role reversals in the story, such as the king cooking dinner while the queen chops wood, and the king wearing an apron.
It’s refreshing to see a story about a princess who isn’t really girly and who doesn’t need saving.
The book is written in rhyme and 6 year old Little H found it easy to read herself. The illustrations are fab and very colourful.
If you want a fun book, about a Princess with a touch of girl power then we’d definitely recommend The Princess and The Giant.
