Last weekend we were invited to the Weymouth Sealife Adventure Park to explore CBBC’s The Deep: Junior Nekton Academy.
The Deep experience involves a series of themed interactive explorer zones with exciting puzzles to help kids explore life under the sea. Adventurers who successfully solve the puzzles will earn themselves the honorary title of ‘Junior Nekton’ and win a special prize. The Deep runs from Saturday September 9th – Sunday September 1st.
I hadn’t actually heard of this kids’ TV program, but Little H knew all about it!
Weymouth is about an hour from where we live in Poole, and we headed down there on a very grey, rainy Sunday morning. A lot of the park is outdoors and it was quite quiet because of the weather.
Once you’ve paid to enter make sure you get an activity pack if you want to take part in The Deep experience. No one mentioned the pack to us so we were a bit confused as to what we were supposed to be doing!
Each zone has an interactive puzzle to complete, along with facts, missions, and tv screens. Once you’ve been to all zones and completed your pack, you can take it to the gift shop for a prize.
Little fans of the tv program will love finding the interactive bits in each zone and trying to solve the puzzles. It’s definitely a good way to get children involved and not just run from tank to tank.
Each zone has a different theme including Harbourside, Shipwreck and Rainforest. There’s also Penguin Beach, a Turtle Sanctury, and Rockpools. You can get up close to the tanks and get a really good look at the creatures swimming around inside.
There’s so much to look at in each zone, amazing fish and sea creatures, plus missions and facts. There are touchscreens so you can learn all about the creatures that are in the tanks in front of you.
If you check out the timings and plan your day you can watch feeding time for the penguins, rays, otters and turtles.
The outdoor rockpool was great fun, if you’re feeling brave enough you can touch starfish – just be careful not to get washed away by the tide if you cross the bridge!
One of our favourites were the jellyfish, we stood watching them for ages. The Ocean Tunnel is great, Little H loved the sting rays and sharks, and we were very pleased to find Nemo and Dory swimming around together.
For the summer there’s a fab splash park but we obviously didn’t get to use that. The play park is great and perfect to wear the kids out before you head home. even better that it has a Costa Coffee next to it!
Unfortunately, it started to rain very heavily before we had chance to see the otters and seals but we will hopefully visit again soon (maybe when the weather is better!) to finish exploring.
