Well, that summer holidays went quickly didn’t it! It only feels like 5 minutes ago the kids were breaking up from school, and now here we are in September.
We’ve had a busy month as usual. I’ve still had to work for most of the school holidays but have managed a few days off here and there. We’ve made sure that we’ve stayed busy at the weekends to make up for the fact Little H has been shipped between friends and family during the week.
What did we get up to in August? Here’s our monthly round-up…
At the start of the month we were still on holiday, sunning it in Gran Canaria. We had great fun lazing around the pool, going on a boat trip, eating ice creams and drinking cocktails! Already seems so long ago.
The weekend after we got back from holiday the weather was lovely. We used our National Trust membership again and headed to Brownsea Island. Neither the husband or I have been since we were little, and Little H had never been. It’s a fab place to explore and we’ll definitely be heading back soon.
One good thing about the school hols is that Little H has had a few sleepovers at her grandparents’ houses. Getting rid of your kids for the night is great even if you don’t do anything – no bedtime routine to do, a bit of a lie in the next morning. Amazing! On one of these occasions, we went on a ‘date night’. My first experience of Five Guys (wow!) and we watched Dunkirk at the new Odeon cinema in Bournemouth. Complete with comfy reclining seats.
Another great National Trust day out is Strourhead in Wiltshire. We headed over there and took a picnic, I think it’s my fave National Trust place we’ve visited so far. There’s an old house to look around, but the best part is the lake and gardens. Around the lake are various houses and grottos which Little H enjoyed exploring.
We’ve also had some trips to the beach, walks with amazing views, and this week we got a new family member! We finally gave in to Little H’s begging and got a kitten. He’s very cute and we look forward to him settling in.
And here we are in September ready to head back to school and back to the normal routines again. Hope you all had a great summer, what did you get up to?

Looks like you had a lovely time in Gran Canaria. Sleepovers at the grandparents are always a massive win we don’t unfortunately get many of those!
