We might only be half way through the school holidays but most mums are already thinking about (or is it wishing for?) the start of term. As soon as we got back from holiday I started ordering the school uniform before it all sells out.
If your child is starting school for the first time you might not know where to start, so this list may come in handy.
These are my back to school must-haves:
An obvious one. Make sure you have plenty, I always get a shirt for every day and two or three skirts/dresses. In the first year I underestimated how dirty kids get at school! Food down her dress every lunchtime, board pen on her shirts, holes in tights.
Our cardigans have to come from the school shop but I just get the rest from the supermarkets, Tesco seems to be the best quality for uniform but get the tights from Primark. For school shoes we have still have a pair of Clarks from last term that still fit, but to be honest I found the M&S patent shoes were the ones that scuffed the least.
I have never and will never waste time ironing or sewing on name tags. Why do people still do that? It’s sticky name tags all the way here.
I’ve used MyNameTags since Little H was at nursery – we still have lunchboxes from 4 years ago with the tags stuck firmly on! They colourful, you can personalise them and they don’t come off.
You can get Free Shipping from MyNameTags, just enter the code SHIPFREE17 at the checkout.
Ah my worst nightmare, makes me itch just thinking about nits! So far we’ve managed to escape them but I’m sure it’ll happen at some point. We use this Vosene Head Lice Repellent Shampoo and this Vosene Conditioning Defence Spray Head and they seem to work. I also keep a bottle of Full Marks Solution in the cupboard for an emergency!
If your children aren’t having school meals then they’re probably nagging you to buy lunch boxes or bags with their favourite characters on. Little H’s fave this year are these ones, though she’s having the free school meals in September she just doesn’t know it yet!
Start as you mean to go on. You don’t want to be the mum who forgets a non-uniform day or a school trip. The only way I can remember everything is to put it all into the calendar on my phone. I’m thinking of getting a planner this year though, that way everyone can see it not just me. Not that anyone else will look at it obviously.
If you’re picking the kids up from school then you’d better have some snacks in your pocket! God help the mum of a hangry child who has forgotten to bring something to eat. Don’t you realise how unreasonable it is to make them wait until you get home?
Believe me, you will need it.
What are your back to school must-haves?
