Last weekend we were invited to the opening of a new dinosaur adventure golf course in Bournemouth – Mighty Claws Adventure Golf.
After a week of amazing weather, it was predictably grey and cold on Saturday morning. Nevertheless, we braved the drizzle to go and play golf. Luckily the rain stopped as we arrived and it did try to brighten up a little bit.
Mighty Claws is about 10 minutes from Bournemouth town centre. It features state of the art, animatronic dinosaurs, an erupting volcano and a five-metre high waterfall!
It reminded me of one of the big themed golf courses in Orlando. I haven’t seen anything like this in the UK before.
The course is aimed at children from 3-14 years (and their parents!). The life-like animatronic dinosaurs are the villains, based on characters of the “Invasion of the Iron Jaws” children’s book.
The story tells the adventures of a small group of lovable dinosaurs from Sweet Claw Valley, who can also be found on the course along the way. The Sweet Claws must undertake a series of fearsome adventures in order to free their valley from the evil Iron Jaws.
After collecting our clubs, balls and scorecard we set off for Sweet Claw Valley.
We had great fun, Little H had never played crazy golf before but she did really well. The course isn’t too easy that adults get bored, but also not too difficult for kids. Each hole has a sign explaining how to complete it – some are easier than others. Unfortunately, none of us managed a hole in one!
It took us 50 minutes to complete the course, though it was very quiet so you’re probably looking at 1 – 1.5 hours on a busy day. Little H had a great time, there’s so much to look at that it kept her attention for the whole time.
There’s lots of dinosaurs to spot as you go round, as well as signs about the story. We didn’t see the volcano erupt so might have to go back again for that one!
After we finished (and Little H won!) we went to the golf club restaurant The Kitchen Club. We’d definitely worked up an appetite and all devoured our pizzas!
The restaurant is really nice and overlooks the “real” golf course. There are tables outside which would be lovely to sit and relax on a sunny day after a round of crazy golf.
We’d definitely recommend checking out Mighty Claws Adventure Golf if you’re in Bournemouth! Now we’re off to read the book….
