Welcome back to another Interview With A Working Mum guest blog post!
Expressing at work and being shattered after a long day is all part of being a working mum – as my latest guest blogger knows only too well…
Firstly, please introduce yourself…
My name is Siobhan. I am 25 years old. I live with my partner, Luke (27), my daughter Aoife (13 months) and our cat, Reggie. We bought the house we currently live in just before finding out I was pregnant (luckily!)
What line of work are you in?
I work in Early Years (Childcare).
How many hours/days do you work?
I currently work around 35 hours spread over 4 days.
Who looks after your daughter while you work?
Whilst I am at work family look after my daughter. So it is either my mum, my partner, my partner’s mum, my grandma or my dad. They have her on different days in the week as they also work!
Are you in the same job/line of work as before you had your daughter?
I am in the same line of work. Although I now work for a different place, more hours and a higher level role (I am an assistant manager).
How quickly did you return to work after having maternity leave?
I had my nine months statutory leave. Luckily I had Aoife at 36 weeks, 2 days after starting maternity leave. So I got to spend a full 9 Months with her!
Did you want to return to work?
Yes and no. I was very conflicted!
What are the hardest things about being a working mum?
Not getting to see much of her in those 3 long days I work (7.30am -6pm) and having to express at work!
What are your favourite things about being a working mum?
Earning to be able to support my daughter and treat her!
What are your least favourite things about being a working mum?
How tired and drained I am by the end of the week!
Do you have any tips for other mums thinking about returning to work after maternity leave?
Know your rights! Especially when it comes to taking days off for your sick child or expressing in the workplace!
