I can’t believe we’re on the last day of 2016, the last year has flown by.
If you listen to the press it’s been a crap year, full of deaths of our favourite celebrities and shocking political decisions.
However on a personal (and maybe selfish) note, we’ve had a great year. We’ve had loads of fun, fab days out, an amazing holiday and most importantly good health.
In June I started doing monthly round-up posts, where I do a summary of what’s gone on in the month. It’s been a really nice way to remember what we got up to – sometimes you don’t realise how busy you’ve been until you look back through your photos.
As it’s the end of theyear, I thought I’d do a similar round up for the year – I’d forgotten most of this until I looked back through my photos!
Here’s our 2016 round-up…
January started off well. We got out and about a lot at the weekends, and had some lovely walks down the beach and local parks. Little H had her ‘Cinderella’s Ball’ at school that we really enjoyed watching.
We had more days out in February, squelching in mud at a local park and seeing the penguins and turtles as the Oceanarium in Bournemouth. The husband and I had a day out in London by ourselves and Little H got a ‘Golden Certificate’ at school for her sentence writing.
World Book Day was in March and Little H dressed up as Alice and got her photo in the local paper with some of her school friends. We also got to watch her in a school performance of some Disney songs and dances which was very cute. We had more beachy days at Sandbanks and Lulworth Cove and for Easter we had a lovely day out in the Srping sunshine at Lulworth Castle doing an Easter Egg Hunt
It started getting sunny in April and we managed to get out in the sun after school for some scooting and playing in the park. We also started our garden makeover project and Little H started gymnastics lessons. We went bug hunting at a local coutry park and had a trip to Hengistbury Head.
We went fairy hunting in May at Furzey Gardens, and also completed our garden makeover which we’re still so pleased with. May also included Little H’s 6th birthday and we had a party at a local farm, followed by dinner out with the grandparents. We also went to Legoland with the grandparents and one of our neices which was a lot of fun.
In June Little H got her first gymnastics badge which she was very chuffed with! We had some great days out down the beach making the most of the sunshine when it appeared, watching the Wheels Festival in Bournemouth and went to a local farm to pet some baby animals.
July started with Little H’s first school sport’s day. The weather got really hot and we made it down to the beach a few times after school to play in the sea and eat ice lollies. We had a yummy afternoon tea in Christchurch, and then on the last day of July we jetted off on the holiday of a lifetime!
The first 2 weeks of August were spent in Orlando. We had a fantastic holiday doing all the Disney and Universal parks, meeting the characters, eating lots, seeing the sights and enjoying the heat. We didn’t want to come home! The end of August was fairly quiet, getting over our holiday and getting ready to get back to school.
September was back to school and the start of Year 1 for Little H. We had another weekend down at the beach before the weather turned colder, a couple of afternoons at the park after school, and a visit to Adventure Wonderland. We went to watch my brother in an army parade in Lyndhurst and Little H got her picture in the paper again!
We had a fun start to October with a trip to London for my birthday. We went to the Natural History Museum and did a bit of sightseeing – it’ so much fun to do things with your kids that you remember doing as a child. The middle of the month was just full of birthday parties for Little H’s school friends but later in the month we went pumpkin picking, went to a Halloween party and did trick or treating.
November started with Bonfire Night and we went to a pub out in the New Forest to watch fireworks and eat hotdogs. We went on more beach walks, made poppies in Christchurch for Rememberance Day and went into Bournemouth to see the nutcracker trail, Christmas lights and a lovely sunset on Bournemouth beach.
December was obviously full of Christmas fun! We had breakfast with Santa at Wyevale Garden Centre, and had Little H’s school Christmas Fayre. We had couple of birthday parties, the school carol concert, and a trip up to Banbury to visit the mother-in-law. Little H did her first gymnastics competition and got 2 medals! Then it was Christmas, we had lots of fun, ate too much and now here we are on New Year’s Eve.
Wow, we had a fun filled year – hopefully this time next year I’ll be able to blog about lots more fun things we got up to in 2017!
I hope you all had a great 2016 – what was your highlight?
Here’s to a fab 2017!
