The kids are dressed up, you’ve carved pumpkins, decorated the lounge and have the sweets ready. But what spooky film are you going to sit down and watch?

It’s hard to know which films to watch with younger kids without scaring them too much. Here are our favourite not too scary Halloween films to watch with small children…

Hotel Transylvania

This is one of Little H’s favourites! It’s full of your usual Halloween characters like Dracula and Frankenstein but it’s more funny than scary. There’s also Hotel Transylvania 2 if they enjoy this one.

Casper The Friendly Ghost

I can’t believe this movie is over 20 years old! As the title suggests Casper isn’t a scary ghost at all, and while the house is a bit creepy the kids will just be focused on the cute ghost and funny pranks.

The Addams Family

Another 90s classic! The characters all look creepy as does their house, but kids will find this funny rather than scary. They’re guaranteed to love the music too!

the Little Vampire

We only watched this film for the first time this week. A little boy moves from America to Scotland and makes friends with a family of Vampires who he has to help. Not scary – how can a film with this little boy be anything other than cute!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

A good Halloween or Christmas film! I thought this might be a bit scary for Little H but she loves “Pumpkin Jack” and this is her choice to watch on Halloween. A good choice for parents too.

Monsters Inc

If you’ve got very young or easily scared kids you can’t go wrong with this Disney favourite. Sully & Mike are funny and loveable, but monsters can still be classed as Halloween can’t they?!

What spooky movies will you be watching with your children this Halloween?
